River Mile 842.50 — Left Descending Bank
1607 W. 7th StreetSaint Paul MN
History
The house slightly off the river at 1607 W. 7th Street was the home of Dan Hogan, St. Paul's "Irish Godfather." Hogan was killed here in 1928 by a car bomb planted by rival gangsters. Hogan ruled the underworld of St. Paul from the Green Lantern Saloon on Wabasha Street. He and the police chief, John O'Conner, ran a system whereby gangsters would go unmolested by police so long as they made the correct payoffs and did not commit crimes within St. Paul.
