River Mile 854.00 — Right Descending Bank
History
Industry
Fine dust stirred into the air can burn explosively. The Washburn A Mill exploded in May of 1878. "In the crowd were the distracted wives and mothers of some of the missing men, whose shrieks mingled with the cries of firemen, noise of the crowd, and the crackling of flames." (Minneapolis Tribune, 3 May 1879 quoted in Anderson, David. p. 59)
This is also the place where Wheaties were invented (Padelford).
